EFM is a mature technology well suited for delivery of symmetric bandwidth to businesses, government offices and cell sites. EFM delivers up to 5.7 Mb/s per line with standard equipment supporting up to 8-way bonding. This delivers a relatively high performance connection with up to 45 Mb/s symmetric bandwidth with high stability, low delay and low packet loss. G.SHDSL is installed in BT exchanges and operates over existing phone lines through local loop unbundling (LLU). The phone lines are used exclusively for EFM with no phone (POTS) signal on the same phone line.
The main costs in building this type of network are in the unbundling of the BT exchange and connectivity to the exchange rather than cost of equipment and installation.
Fiwave offers a high quality carrier class EFM solution that provides standards compliant EFM connectivity for offices and cell sites. We use equipment supplied by one of the leading EFM equipment manufacturers. The solution features the capability to transport clock-accurate TDM traffic over EFM, which can be used to replace expensive E1 leased lines traditionally used for mobile site backhaul. The same TDM capability can be used for connections to traditional PBXs that require ISDN PRI/E1 trunks or tie lines. The solution is also perfectly suitable for delivery of symmetric bandwidth to small and medium sized offices. The solution supports bonding of lines of unequal bandwidth as well as online addition and removal of lines. It is possible to start with a small number of lines and then increase the number as bandwidth demand grows.
